Jonathan Left An Empty Treasury And Huge Debt For Me- Buhari

President Buhari yesterday at his first day at work in the Presidential Villa has told State House correspondents that the immediate former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan left an empty treasury for him coupled with huge debts which run into millions of dollars. Buhari however pleaded with Journalists to please be fair on his administration and watch closely. He also spoke about workers not been paid at the State and Federal level saying it is disgraceful beyond words. He however promised to do his best to revive the situation. What he said;


“This culture of 100 days (in office) is bringing so much pressure with treasury virtually empty; with debts in millions of dollars; with state workers and even federal workers not being paid their salaries. This is such a disgrace for Nigeria. I think Nigeria should be in a position to at least pay its workers. This bad management that we find ourselves in, we really need your help to protect us from people before they march on us,” he told Jurnalists.

North Korea Bans Instagram

North Korea has taken secrecy a step further by blacklisting Instagram,in a bid to stop embarrassing news leaking out of the country.
Instagram users who attempted to open the photo sharing app were confronted with a message which reads
"Warning! You can't connect to this website because it's in blacklist site."

According to Daly Mirror, some observers have claimed the reason behind the ban is not unconnected with the recent hotel blaze which has never been mentioned in state-run media.

President Buhari Cancels Military Checkpoints Nationwide

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the removal of all military checkpoints set up nationwide in the fight against boko haram activities. He gave the order to service chiefs today at the Presidential Villa in a closed door meeting he held with them.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila, shortly after the meeting while speaking to State House correspondents also confirmed it.

Pete Edochie Proclaims Things Fall Apart As His Most Challenging Role

Pete Edochie has admitted that the most challenging role he ever played, was Okonkwo in the movie Things Fall Apart which was based on a book written by the prolific writer, late Chinua Achebe.

In an interview with the Daily Trust, Pete Edochie said;
“Quite honestly... The most challenging role was ‘Things Fall Apart’ no doubt”. “it Is difficult to tell because each production I get involved in, I give it my best shot, so I can’t tell you this is the best I’ve done or things like that. I feel happy, immensely gratified when people go to buy films and they start saying give us the one with Pete Edochie in it. It gives me a lot of joy.” The movie Things fall Apart is widely believed to have brought Pete Edochie to limelight.

Senate President Saraki Runs National Assembly From Private Residence (See Why)

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has, since his election as the chairman of the National Assembly on June 9, been attending to official matters at his private residence in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory because the N27.1bn official homes being built for National Assembly’s principal officers are still under construction.


The former multi-million Naira official residence of the Senate President and those of other principal officers had been sold in 2010 at give-away prices by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo administration under the monetization program,Punch reports.

Former Senate President, David Mark; his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; former Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; and his deputy, Usman Nafada, had in 2010, bought their official homes. Other lawmakers also did likewise.

I Don’t Know Why People Are Anxious For Ministers – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari explained, yesterday, that he was yet to appoint his ministers because his predecessor’s transition committee submitted its report on the previous administration to him late.

Buhari, who spoke to newsmen at the Summit of the African Union in Johannesburg, South Africa, said he was being careful in order not to make mistakes in appointing individuals especially to key positions such as in the finance and petroleum ministries.

His words: “I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have (them). But the main reason is that I have an interim committee which I agreed with the former President Jonathan that the ministers of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers.

President Buhari Orders Release Of N4bn To fight Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said he had directed that $21m out of the pledge of $100m which Nigeria made to the Multinational Joint Task Force be released within the next one week.

Buhari disclosed this at the 25th AU summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. He chaired the Peace Security Council at the event.

He said he gave the directive based on the decision of the recent extraordinary summit of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin that $30m should be immediately made available to the MNJTF which is saddled with the responsibility of fighting Boko Haram.

Mrs Buhari gave the warning at an Appreciation Dinner she hosted in honor of All Progressives Congress' women and youths in Abuja.

Mrs Buhari reminded the soon to be nominated cabinet members that it took her husband 12 years to get to the position he is occupying today.

The president's wife added that it is not former President Goodluck Jonathan that is bad but the people he surrounded himself with, adding that it is the reason she is sounding an early warning to those who would work with her husband that they are coming to serve the masses and not the President.

Nigerian Defender Dies After Collapsing On Football Field

Nigerian defender David Faramola Oniya has died. Oniya died on Saturday after collapsing on the pitch during a friendly between his Malaysian club T-Team and Kelantan.

The T-Team captain, who was 30, collapsed three minutes into the match in Kota Bharu and was taken to hospital.

The match was abandoned after 60 minutes when a message was received from the hospital that Oniya had died. Oniya had only just joined the Malaysian club this season. May his soul rest in peace.

President Buhari Appoints New Accountant General

Mohammed Dikwa was on Friday named Nigeria’s new acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This followed the retirement of Jonas Otunla from service. Mr. Dikwa who would hold office until the appointment of a substantive Accountant-General is appointed by the president, was the Director, Funds Department in the Office of the Accountant- General of the Federation until his appointment as the acting AGF.

Dikwa, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, a Masters in Business Administration and Finance, and attended the Senior Executive Course 34, 2014 at the National Institute of for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

Mr. Dikwa, a former Accountant-General of Borno State, was awarded Certificates in Public Finance Management Reforms, Leadership and Governance, High Performance Leadership Programme and Treasury Management at the Harvard University, USA; University of Cambridge, Oxford University in the UK, and Thames Valley University UK respectively.

I Didn’t Fight Ebube Nwagbo Over Kcee- Anita Joseph



Nollywood actress, Anita Joseph has said she did not fight her colleague, Ebube Nwagbo over music star Kcee and neither did she beg her. Anita said this to a Punch reporter when asked what led to their fight and how they eventually settled it.

“I couldn’t have gone to ‘beg’ Ebube for any form of forgiveness. How? Where? The truth is that we don’t have any issue. She may not have been my close friend but she is not my enemy either. It was just people that brought up the issue of us having a fight; it never happened.

“Forget all those things you hear, Ebube is a very nice person. We come from the same state and we speak the same dialect. She is a lovely person and there is no way we can quarrel,” she said.

It will be recalled that Ebube Nwagbo was dating Kcee at the time the press reported that Anita was also into him. But now, Anita said it never happened.

Emeka Offor Donates $10m To Fight River Blindness

Nigerian Philanthropist, Chief Emeka Offor, yesterday donated the sum of 10 million dollars to accelerate the Carter Centre’s efforts to eliminate River Blindness in Nigeria.

To that effect, the former US President, Mr Jimmy Carter, and Offor signed an agreement between the Carter Centre and Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) for a partnership to eliminate the disease from seven states in Nigeria.

Offor presented the cheque for the sum to Carter at the ceremony which held yesterday.

[PHOTO] Two Young Nigerians Get 55 Years Jail Term In Enugu

A Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, has sentenced two drug traffickers to fifty-five years in jail.

One of the convicts, Deborah Okafor, a 30-year-old professional dancer, was charged with conspiracy, trafficking and unlawful possession of 3.450kg of amphetamine, while the other, Iheme Onyemauchechukwu, was charged with trafficking and unlawful importation of 9.975kg of heroin. They were both arrested at the Enugu airport.

A statement by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said Okafor would have been paid the sum of $3,500 if she successfully made her trip to Malaysia.

She was convicted and sentenced by Justice D. V. Agishi to 10 years each in counts one and two and 20 years in count three making her sentence 40 years altogether.
