My Landlord removed my roof, damaged N5.2m property, tenant Complains to court

According to Easynews, a tenant, Ernest Nzewi, on Monday told a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, how his landlord removed the roof over his head in a bid to eject him. Nzewi said he contacted his landlord, Mr Okunola Oshisanya, on June 5, 2012, following a downpour which destroyed some asbestos sheets at his apartment at No. 8, James Robertson St., Surulere. “He came on June 6, 2012 to see the roof being repaired.
Two hours later, someone came with a letter from the landlord, giving me 24 hours to vacate the apartment. “On June 11, 2012, the landlord sent some people, including his son to the house to remove the roofing sheets. “That same day, rain fell and destroyed property worth N5.2million,’’ he said. The men (Six) were arraigned on June 18, 2012, on a four-count charge bordering on willful damage and breaking-in. The accused are Adebola Oshisanya, 35; Musa Akanji, 29; Dele Akinlosan, 35; Baba Sule, 40; Yusuf Ogundele, 23; and Saheed Amuda, 35. They all pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with a surety each in like sum. Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Gbenga Salami said the accused went to the residence of Nzewi and destroyed property worth N5.2 million. Salami said the offences contravened Sections 166, 305, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The Magistrate, Mrs F.B. Lawal, adjourned the case to May 19 for cross-examination.
