Falae Was Kidnapped By Fulani Herdsmen Who Beat & Dragged Him On The Floor Before Whisking Him Away

Vanguard Newspaper has reported how the kidnapping of a former minister of finance and a onetime presidential candidate of Nigeria took place today on his farm in Ondo with the help of family members and police who gave some details into the kidnapping.

Born on September 21, 1938, the former Finance minister was kidnapped by over 20 Fulani herdsmen who invaded his farm and attacked his over 200 workers.

Many of his workers including the farm Manager identified as Bruno were matcheted while others were reportedly wounded and are on admission in different hospitals.

Dr Ikechukwu Ogbonna has joined the myriads of ABSU alumni locally and in diaspora who have continued to bring the name of the Nigeria's First State Owned university to limelight by excelling conspicuously in their respective endeavors.

He was recently awarded the 2015 BEST GRADUATING CANDIDATE IN FMCPaed (FELLOW MEDICAL COLLEGE OF PEDIATRICS) II examination by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria during the 33rd convocation ceremony of the postgraduate medical college.

Excelling in the FMCPaed part II (final) examination means that he is now fellow of the medical college of pediatrics and can now serve the public as a consultant pediatrician.

He also bagged a 2nd award as the "Best Dissertation in FMCPaed Examination". Suffice to note that 3 out of the 5 awards in the faculty of pediatrics of the National postgraduate medical college of
Nigeria, went to ABSU alumni.

A big congratulations to him, the second awardee, to Abia State university Uturu, a citadel of learning in God's own state and to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) where he did his residency training.

Saraki Must Appear Tomorrow, Tribunal Rules

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, must appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal Tomorrow at 10am, to face a 13-count charge of alleged corruption, the tribunal ruled today.

Saraki who is facing charges bordering on corruption and false assets declaration, failed to appear before the tribunal during the sitting, despite an arrest warrant issued against him by the tribunal last Friday.

The chairman of the Tribunal has however made it mandatory for him to appear tomorrow. We are however not sure if the Senate President will honour the sitting, but the police over the weekend said they did not receive any order on Friday requesting them to arrest Saraki.,

A former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen, State Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Christopher Adesotu, a former member of House of Representatives, John Abolagba, decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Imasuen said it was no longer news that the PDP had fallen apart.

“Many people have asked me, ‘why do you want to join the comrade governor?’. If you wrestle with somebody for so long and you are not able to defeat the person, won’t you join the person? Niger Delta Militant Threatens To Blow Things Up In Akwa Ibom For Neglect After Amnesty

Militants under the aegis of Bakassi Freedom Fighters have threatened to disrupt activities at Ibom International Airport, ExxonMobil, as well as vandalize pipelines from Frontier Oil Limited in Akwa Ibom State. Commander Ebong Friday, the group’s spokesperson made this known on Friday in Eket, Eket Local Government Area of the state at a meeting with his members, saying the state government has neglected its members since the time they dropped their arms in the wake of the Federal Government Amnesty Programme to pursue peace.

“The group has given the Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, a 1-week ultimatum to empower his members in the youth empowerment programme or risk dire consequences,” Friday said. “It is very unfortunate,” Friday continued, “that the state government is taking us for granted.

We dropped our arms in the course of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and chose to embrace peace. “We voluntarily dropped our arms to embrace peace after the Akwa Ibom State Government called for amnesty and we surrendered our arms with an agreement that they would train us and integrate us, so that we could achieve what they had promised us, but they turned their backs on us,” he stressed. “We went to Obubra for training and came back to the state but the state government is yet to sort us out. “About 950 members of the group are yet to be integrated and documented in the Federal Government amnesty programmes,” the group spokesperson lamented.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN on Friday released the list of 19 states that have benefitted from the workers’ salary bailout package.


Its spokesman, Ibrahim Mu’azu, explained that the bailout was in line with the recent resolution by the National Economic Council, NEC.

He noted that the development would ensure the affected states pay the backlog of their workers’ salary arrears.


The package has a 20-year repayment tenor for all states, except Ogun State, which opted for a 10 year tenor.

The 19 that have received theirs are Kwara, Zamfara, Osun, Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Abia, Adamawa, Ondo, and Kebbi.

Others include Ekiti, Imo, Ebonyi, Ogun, Plateau, Nassarawa, Sokoto, Edo and Oyo.

Americans would elect the 45th President of the United States on Nov. 8, 2016, and the winner of the presidential election would be sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2017.


The Republican and Democratic parties are selecting presidential nominees for the 2016 general election.

Important dates in the nominations and election as released on Friday in Washington, indicated that on Sept. 16, there would be the Republican Party candidates debate, at Simi Valley, California.


It said on Oct. 13, the Democratic Party candidates debate, would come up at Las Vegas, Nevada.

On Oct. 28 also the Republican Party candidates’ debate would come up again at Boulder, Colorado.

I Poured Hot Water On My Madam To Teach Her A ‘Lesson’- 17-Year Old Maid

A 17-year-old house maid, Esther Abiodun, has been arraigned before a Lagos State magistrates’ court for allegedly pouring hot water on her employer, Alhaja Dupe Iba Agba, while she was asleep.

Abiodun was arrested by the police from the Adeniji Adele division, Lagos Island and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court on a two-count charge of felony to wit, unlawful pouring of hot water on her employer’s body occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijale, informed the court that the accused committed the offence on 14 September, 2015 at her employer’s residence located at 20/21, Osho Street, Lagos Island a day after she secured the job as a house maid.

Nigerian Army Reopens Primary School In Gwoza

To further assist returnees and other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with education of their children, the Nigerian military has reopened a coeducational Primary School in Gwoza, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

The military in conjunction with other security agencies and other security stakeholders have placed adequate security measures to ensure the pupils and teachers safety and security. Already classes have commenced and the turn out was quite impressive.


The reopening of the primary school in Gwoza is significant as the eradication of western education is part of the aims of Boko Haram in their murderous campaign of terror.

Osinbajo Lambasts Northern Leaders

Vice President Yemi  Osinbajo says the present crop of northern leaders is responsible for the backwardness of the region, saying they have abandoned diligence and selfless service and resorted to personal aggrandizement, Vanguard reports.

Osinbajo made the remark at the opening ceremony of Northern Reawakening Forum (NRF) Summit, held under the theme “Building a Safe, Secure and Economically Inclusive Northern Nigeria” and held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Saturday.

He regretted that the elite had jettisoned the foundation set by the founding fathers, leading to the challenges confronting the country.

Jonathan Left An Empty Treasury And Huge Debt For Me- Buhari

President Buhari yesterday at his first day at work in the Presidential Villa has told State House correspondents that the immediate former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan left an empty treasury for him coupled with huge debts which run into millions of dollars. Buhari however pleaded with Journalists to please be fair on his administration and watch closely. He also spoke about workers not been paid at the State and Federal level saying it is disgraceful beyond words. He however promised to do his best to revive the situation. What he said;


“This culture of 100 days (in office) is bringing so much pressure with treasury virtually empty; with debts in millions of dollars; with state workers and even federal workers not being paid their salaries. This is such a disgrace for Nigeria. I think Nigeria should be in a position to at least pay its workers. This bad management that we find ourselves in, we really need your help to protect us from people before they march on us,” he told Jurnalists.

President Buhari Cancels Military Checkpoints Nationwide

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the removal of all military checkpoints set up nationwide in the fight against boko haram activities. He gave the order to service chiefs today at the Presidential Villa in a closed door meeting he held with them.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila, shortly after the meeting while speaking to State House correspondents also confirmed it.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has, since his election as the chairman of the National Assembly on June 9, been attending to official matters at his private residence in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory because the N27.1bn official homes being built for National Assembly’s principal officers are still under construction.


The former multi-million Naira official residence of the Senate President and those of other principal officers had been sold in 2010 at give-away prices by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo administration under the monetization program,Punch reports.

I Don’t Know Why People Are Anxious For Ministers – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari explained, yesterday, that he was yet to appoint his ministers because his predecessor’s transition committee submitted its report on the previous administration to him late.

Buhari, who spoke to newsmen at the Summit of the African Union in Johannesburg, South Africa, said he was being careful in order not to make mistakes in appointing individuals especially to key positions such as in the finance and petroleum ministries.

His words: “I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have (them). But the main reason is that I have an interim committee which I agreed with the former President Jonathan that the ministers of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers.

President Buhari Orders Release Of N4bn To fight Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said he had directed that $21m out of the pledge of $100m which Nigeria made to the Multinational Joint Task Force be released within the next one week.

Buhari disclosed this at the 25th AU summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. He chaired the Peace Security Council at the event.

He said he gave the directive based on the decision of the recent extraordinary summit of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin that $30m should be immediately made available to the MNJTF which is saddled with the responsibility of fighting Boko Haram.

President Buhari Appoints New Accountant General

Mohammed Dikwa was on Friday named Nigeria’s new acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This followed the retirement of Jonas Otunla from service. Mr. Dikwa who would hold office until the appointment of a substantive Accountant-General is appointed by the president, was the Director, Funds Department in the Office of the Accountant- General of the Federation until his appointment as the acting AGF.

Dikwa, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, a Masters in Business Administration and Finance, and attended the Senior Executive Course 34, 2014 at the National Institute of for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

Mr. Dikwa, a former Accountant-General of Borno State, was awarded Certificates in Public Finance Management Reforms, Leadership and Governance, High Performance Leadership Programme and Treasury Management at the Harvard University, USA; University of Cambridge, Oxford University in the UK, and Thames Valley University UK respectively.
