Muslim Model Commits Suicide Over Fear Of Arranged Marriage By Her Parents

A model was found hanged after fearing she was about to be forced into an arranged marriage by her Muslim parents.Nadia Menaz, 24, was found dead at her home in Oldham, Greater Manchester in May, five months after taking out a court order to stop her family from forcing her to marry.
The mother-of-one had already married in an Islamic ceremony, but the union was not recognised under English law, and her family did not approve of her husband, Umar Rasool.

Ms Menaz, a former army cadet who had wanted to join the police but started modelling after leaving home at 16, had met Mr Rasool, 25, in 2010.

They began dating, initially keeping their relationship hidden from her parents until they married in an Islamic ceremony in April 2011. The marriage was never formally confirmed under English law, but the couple had a daughter who was born in March 2012.
In December last year, Ms Menaz took out a forced marriage protection order at the Family Court in Manchester against her father Sabir Hussain, 60, and her mother Ruksana Kousar, 55, and three of her eight siblings. According to government guidelines, the legislation protects women if they are being threatened with a forced marriage or are already within a forced marriage.

Olu Of Warri’s Death: Adults To Wear Clothes Inside-Out For 3 Months

Warri Traditional Council of Chiefs officially announced the demise of Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase 11 on Saturday, which laid to rest the controversy surrounding the death of the monarch.

NAN reports that Chief Yahya Pessu, member, Olu Advisory Council and other chiefs announced the Atuwase’s death in Ode-Itsekiri. He also announced Mr Godfrey Emiko as the Olu-designate, which was accompanied by wide ovation from the Itsekiri sons and daughters present at the event.


Before the announcement, a chalk wrapped with red and black clothes was smashed on the ground three times to symbolise the demise of the monarch, and it was accompanied by 17 cannons shots.

Addressing newsmen, Pessu said the Itsekiri people would be in a mourning mood in the next three months till the burial rite was concluded.

“All Itsekiri adults both male and female will put their clothes inside out throughout this period of mourning.

“No party, no drumming or merriment of any sort in Itsekiri land, until the burial is over and new Olu installed,” he said.

12 Year Old Girl Commits Suicide In Mushin

A 12-year-old girl identified as Mulikat Hassan, was found dead around 6pm, dangling from the ceiling of her parents’ one-room apartment located at 102, Mushin Road, Ikate, Lagos.

Parents of the deceased Mr and Mrs Hassan were said to have come back from work to behold the gory sight. An eyewitness described how they discovered the deceased body dangling from the ceiling;

Niger Delta Militant Threatens To Blow Things Up In Akwa Ibom For Neglect After Amnesty

Militants under the aegis of Bakassi Freedom Fighters have threatened to disrupt activities at Ibom International Airport, ExxonMobil, as well as vandalize pipelines from Frontier Oil Limited in Akwa Ibom State. Commander Ebong Friday, the group’s spokesperson made this known on Friday in Eket, Eket Local Government Area of the state at a meeting with his members, saying the state government has neglected its members since the time they dropped their arms in the wake of the Federal Government Amnesty Programme to pursue peace.

“The group has given the Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, a 1-week ultimatum to empower his members in the youth empowerment programme or risk dire consequences,” Friday said. “It is very unfortunate,” Friday continued, “that the state government is taking us for granted.

We dropped our arms in the course of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and chose to embrace peace. “We voluntarily dropped our arms to embrace peace after the Akwa Ibom State Government called for amnesty and we surrendered our arms with an agreement that they would train us and integrate us, so that we could achieve what they had promised us, but they turned their backs on us,” he stressed. “We went to Obubra for training and came back to the state but the state government is yet to sort us out. “About 950 members of the group are yet to be integrated and documented in the Federal Government amnesty programmes,” the group spokesperson lamented.

Police Dismiss Cop Who Shot Woman Dead In Alimisho, Charges Him

The policeman, Aremu Musiliu who killed a woman in a tricycle on Wednesday in Alimosho, with her husband still battling a bullet wound on his neck at a Lagos hospital has been dismissed from the Nigerian police force and was yesterday arraigned before an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate court on two counts of murder and causing grievous body harm.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, who also confirmed the development, said the suspect’s excuses for misusing his firearm were untenable, hence his dismiss and arraignment.

Full List: CBN Reveals States Given Bailout And Amounts

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN on Friday released the list of 19 states that have benefitted from the workers’ salary bailout package.


Its spokesman, Ibrahim Mu’azu, explained that the bailout was in line with the recent resolution by the National Economic Council, NEC.

He noted that the development would ensure the affected states pay the backlog of their workers’ salary arrears.


The package has a 20-year repayment tenor for all states, except Ogun State, which opted for a 10 year tenor.

The 19 that have received theirs are Kwara, Zamfara, Osun, Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Abia, Adamawa, Ondo, and Kebbi.

Others include Ekiti, Imo, Ebonyi, Ogun, Plateau, Nassarawa, Sokoto, Edo and Oyo.

Below are all the states that benefited from the funds and amount received or to receive soon.
