Jackie Chan’s Son Charged With Drug Offence

The son of Hollywood actor Jackie Chan has been charged with a drug offence and risk going to jail. Jaycee Chan, 32, is accused of sheltering others to use drugs and also  indulge in it, despite the country’s effort to tackle illegal usage of drugs.

Police found more than 100 grams of marijuana in his home in August and has been detained ever since, waiting for his trial. Jaycee was arrested with another, actor who was set free just after 14 days in detention. He has confessed to the crime, and his father says, he feels ashamed and feels he has failed. He apologised on behalf of his son and himself on what the act might have caused the society and admits Jaycee is a man, and should be made responsible for his crimes.

Okada Rider Beats Pregnant Woman Mercilessly For Grabbing His Joystick

According to witnesses, the seven-month pregnant victim was left injured along the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

A pregnant woman in Lagos State has reportedly been rendered unconscious after a commercial motorcycle operator, aka Okada rider, assaulted her.

The trouble was said to have started between the two when instead of taking the expectant mother to her destination at the First Gate bus stop, the okada rider stopped at Oluti bus stop.

Boko Haram last weekend released a video threatening to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in retaliation for the Emir’s call on Kano residents and other Nigerians to arm and defend themselves against the terror organization. In the new video, Mr. Shekau said his group does not consider Mr. Sanusi a true Muslim, and will attack him whenever an opportunity presents itself.

In what appears to be a reply to the Boko Haram leader, Shekau, the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, said that he remained protected against any evil attack and nothing was going to happen to him except the will of Allah, the creator.

Two Female Students Mistaken For Suicide Bombers Escape Lynching In Minna

Two female students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State narrowly escaped being lynched yesterday at Jumma’at central mosque for refusing to surrender their bags for security search. The students, who were wearing hijab, were suspected to be suicide bombers by members of the public.

Tension heightened as the case of the suspected ladies was being dealt with a loud explosive sound was heard from a different direction, prompting many worshippers to run for safety.

A witness told Weekly Trust that the students arrived the mosque vicinity when prayer was about to start and they resisted attempts to search their bags. He added that the timely intervention of the police saved the lives of the two students as members of the public had started descending on them.

Nigerian Soldier Who Contracted Ebola In Liberia Has Been Cured

A Nigerian United Nations peacekeeper infected with Ebola and brought to the Netherlands for treatment has been cured, the Dutch authorities said on Friday.

“The Nigerian patient who was admitted on December 6 has been cured of Ebola,” the Dutch public health institute RIVM said in a statement.

The soldier was infected while working as a peacekeeper battling the deadly disease in Liberia.
He was flown to the Netherlands at the request of the World Health Organisation in a specially equipped plane and treated at the university hospital in central city Utrecht.

NDLEA Destroys N15.1bn Hemp, Arrests Cartel Kingpin

A coordinated sting operation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has led to the discovery and destruction of Indian hemp with a street value of N15.1bn. Saturday Punch learnt that the operation was carried out across four states-Ekiti, Edo, Delta and Kogi – where cannabis plantations were also destroyed.

Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, put the total weight of the cannabis intercepted during the raid code-named ‘Operation Weed Eater’ as 1,514,278 kg.

Problem Child: Boy Locks Up Father, Stabs Him In The Eye For Not Buying Him Christmas Clothes

For refusing to buy his son a Christmas cloth, a Lagos based middle aged father, Anthony is now nursing an eye injury.

Leadership reports that the boy, a secondary school student, Ikeji, threw caution to the wind on Thursday and stabbed his father in the right eye for failing to buy him Christmas clothes.
Before then, he had locked up his dad for some minutes in their apartment on Arowojobe Street, Osodi.

Family members who witnessed the act said Anthony had explained to Ikechi that he had only “small money” which barely paid for the Christmas clothes of his three siblings, but all appeals made by his father fell on deaf ears.

Over 70% Candidates Fail WAEC

Over 70 percent of candidates who participated in this year’s WAEC exams have failed, the Head, National Office of the Council, Charles Eguridu announced yesterday. Mr Eguridu while announcing the results said, out of the total number of 241,161 candidates who sat for the examinations, only 72,522 scored five credits with the two key subjects, giving a pass rate of 29.27 percent. A record which only supersedes that of 2013 by only 1 percent.

It will also be recalled that there was also a massive failure last year when only 86,612 candidates passed out of a total number of 298,971 candidates who wrote the examinations.
