Imo State Government Crowns Akudo Ezinne Face Of The State, To Name A Street After Her+N500,000

The Imo State House of Assembly, last Tuesday, honoured the winner of the Miss Nigeria 2013, Miss Ezinne Akudo Anyaoha for emerging the winner of the beauty pageant.
DailyStar reports that Ezinne was invited into the Chambers during their session to receive the recognition and honour.

The house had described her achievement as one worthy of recognition and celebration, adding that her effort has not only projected a good image of the Imo woman but has also brought her to international limelight.

So, a motion was moved for her to become the face of the state.
The Speaker Rt Hon. Ben Uwajumogu added that a road be named after her so that it will always be in history that one of their own won the prestigious Miss Nigeria crown as this will serve as an inspiration to other younger girls in the state as well as the unborn.

14-yr-old Girl Murdered by Father Over Choice of Church

THE police in Lagos State have started investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 14 - year - old girl , who was allegedly beaten to death by his father over which church to attend.

The police in the state have arrested the 72-year-old father, John Udin, who was accused of killing his daughter for refusing to follow him to his church.

The mother of the deceased girl, Comfort Udin, accused her husband of being excessively angry since the deceased refused to attend his church.

She accused the man of using a log, laced with nails, to hit the deceased, simply identified as Ejiro, in the forehead, which subsequently led to her death.

A New Hampshire woman has been sentenced to nine to 30 years after pleading guilty in the torture of her 18-year-old son.

The teen, who is now 19, has two other alleged abusers he has yet to face. In court, he spoke to his now "ex-mother."

You beat me, starved me, almost chopped my penis off, threw my clothes away, wouldn’t let me bathe. You almost killed me by having me take three [antidepressants] and two muscle-relaxers."

A 25-year-old Hawaii surfer and former boxer went toe-to-fin with a shark off Kauai and survived.

Jeff Horton was surfing Sunday morning with about 10 others when someone spotted a fin in the water, The Garden Island  reported.

Twenty minutes later, Horton was sitting on his surfboard with his legs dangling in the water when he spotted a dark shape approaching from the left. He thought it was a stingray — dark on top, white on the bottom.

Titanic’ ship to sail again in new movie after 100 years

Australian mining tycoon, dinosaur park enthusiast and political force Clive Palmer Monday pegged out a new role for himself — a deckchair cameo in a movie he plans about the Titanic.
Palmer has made waves with his bid to build Titanic II — a replica of the doomed luxury liner which sank more than a century ago — which is scheduled to make its first Atlantic crossing in 2016.
“Due to worldwide interest in @titanic_ii I’ve registered ‘Palmer Pictures’. Will look at making a movie about its maiden voyage #titanic,” he tweeted.
“@titanic_ii The ship where dreams come true,” he added later.
Palmer, who has won a seat in the Australian parliament pending an ongoing recount after the success of his Palmer United Party in September elections, told the AAP news agency that the movie would be filmed aboard his liner.

Jackie Chan Longs for Hollywood's Full Embrace As Body Ages

The Hong Kong martial arts film star, who declared last year at France's Cannes film festival that he was retiring from action films, now says that after more than a decade of contemplating quitting, he is going to let his body decide.

"When I was 40-something the media would ask me and then I said another five years, and then five years and five years until now," the Kung Fu actor said in an interview promoting his 2012 Chinese action film "Chinese Zodiac," which will be released in U.S. cinemas on Friday.

"Six more months and I'm going to be 60," Chan said. "And I (will) see how far I can go until my body tells me, 'Stop.'"

Chan, famous for performing all of his high-flying and physically punishing stunts, has appeared in more than 100 films and now writes, produces and directs his own films in Asia.

The first daughter of the late Afro beat king, Fela Anikilapo-Kuti, Yeni Kuti has said that Felabration was created to honour her late father.

Yeni said in Lagos that the ongoing annual musical arts festival is meant to celebrate the life and times of Fela for his contributions to the music and art industry in Nigeria.

Student Attempts Suicide Over ASUU Strike

The ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU took a different turn on Saturday at the Dutse-Alhaji area of Abuja when a female student of the University of Abuja made to hang herself in protest of the nearly four months old strike.

The female student identified as Jane Okoro had already hanged herself, but fell off the ceiling while struggling, apparently because the rope she used was not strong enough.

Jane had sent her two younger brothers on an errand, just a way of sending them out of the house to be able to carry out the abominable act, but one of the brothers returned after 15 minutes and saw her on the floor with a rope tied round her neck while another rope dangled from the ceiling fan. The 15 year old boy raised the alarm, thinking that his sister was dead, attracting neighbours and other onlookers into their compound. However, it was discovered by those who got there first, that Jane was alive as it was only a suicide attempt.
