Deputies say the man was stabbed in the upper body, but his injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Man Sentenced To Death In Katsina, Then Tries To Kill Himself In Court

A man who was sentenced to death by a court in Katsina was restrained by wardens after he tried to take his own life.

Aminu Ibrahim was sentenced today by the  High Court sitting in the Malumfashi area of the state.

Ibrahim was convicted of armed robbery and as such is to die by hanging as the law stipulates.

According to the Leadership report, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) discloses that the convict, on hearing the verdict, immediately attempted to commit suicide in the court’s cell room using an iron bar.

He was, however, overpowered by prison warders who struggled with him for minutes before pinning him down and dragging him into a waiting vehicle.

Ibrahim was convicted and sentenced by Justice Abbas Bawale for armed robbery, an offence contrary to section 1,(2) CAP. R.11 of Robbery and Firearms Act, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The charge was filed on Oct. 13, 2011, while the offence was committed in Sept. 2011 on Kafur-Malumfashi road, where victims were robbed of their valuables.

In his Judgement, Bawale held that the prosecution had succeeded in proving its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He said that the court was satisfied with the testimonies of the five witnesses, including some of the robbery victims and the investigating police officers, presented by the prosecution counsel, Mr Aminu Garba.

Garba had also tendered five exhibits including a locally made gun, used fillets and a stick, all used during the commission of the crime and which were admitted by the court.

The judge said the witnesses had established before the court that Ibrahim was arrested at the scene of the crime during which one of his accomplices was shot dead while others escaped.

The court, therefore, dismissed efforts to discountenance the testimonies of witnesses by the defence counsel, Mr A.I. Radda, and sentenced the convict to death by hanging. (NAN)

Son Kills Mother And Disembowels Her, Says She Ruined His Life

A 22 year old man killed his mother with a knife and yanked her intestines out because according to him she 'ruined his life'

From NBC Connecticut
The man accused of killing his mother in Deep River, Conn., on Thurs., disemboweled her, according to a police report. Troopers responded to a home at 131 Rattling Valley Road around 1 p.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call from the victim's ex-husband.

Robert Owen Rankin, the victim's 22-year-old son, was arrested and charged with murder. Rankin and his father were outside the house when police arrived.

On Friday, state police identified the victim as 45-year-old Margaret Rohner. According to court documents, Rankin admitted the crime to his father and then to the first state police trooper who arrived on the scene.

"I used the knife to kill my mother," Rankin told the trooper after the trooper asked if he had any weapons on him. "I killed my mother because she is pretty much responsible for everything that has gone wrong in my life," he allegedly told the trooper.

Rankin continued to tell the trooper in detail what he had allegedly done to his mother.
He said he woke up in the morning with a plan to snap his mother's neck to kill her, but when that didn't work, he stabbed her in the neck with a fire poker, according to the police report.
When Rankin saw she was still alive, he told police he took his clothes off to "gain additional strength," in his words.

He then used a buck knife to stab his mother in the belly button, the court documents show. Rankin said he was looking for a baby but couldn't find one in her stomach, he allegedly told police.

He told investigators he cleaned up, took a shower and decided to take his dog for a walk. It was then that he saw his father and allegedly admitted to the crime.

"I just want you to know that she put up a damn good fight. She is a strong woman. I give her credit for that," he told his father, according to court documents.

Police who went inside the home found Rohner's body with several wounds to the abdomen.

Rankin appeared in Middletown Superior court on Friday morning. His attorney, Dennis McMahon, said Rankin appears to have a long history of severe psychiatric issues.
Rankin was held on $1 million bond and put on a suicide watch.

Man Arrested For Allegedly Molesting And Impregnating his 14-Year-Old Daughter

The Police in Lagos State said it had arrested a 36-year old man who allegedly molested and impregnated his 14-year old daughter.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ngozi Braide, made this known when she briefed journalists in Ikeja on Friday.

Ms. Braide said the girl had been pregnant for the past two months and that the man claimed to be bewitched. She added that the mother of the girl divorced her father seven years ago.

The spokesperson added that the matter was reported at Meiran Police Station of the Area ‘M’ Police Command.

The victim told journalists that her father brought a native doctor who convinced her that sex was part of the treatment to cure her undisclosed sickness before she was molested.

“My father gives me native soap and sponge probably for ritual bath always. He once entered the bathroom with me and had sex with me forcefully.

“He took me to bed forcefully several times in his room and when I refused, he threatened to kill me with a knife.

“Since then, he had been making love to me under the guise that I will be cured,” she said.

I Don’t Believe In God -Katty Perry

The 29-year-old Pop star who was raised in a devout Christian home claims she no longer believes in a single religion in a new interview with the U.S. edition of Marie Claire. Katy Said:
“I don’t believe in a heaven or a hell, or an old man sitting on a throne. I believe in a higher power bigger than me because that keeps me accountable,” she told the magazine.
“Accountability is rare to find, especially with people like myself, because nobody wants to tell you something you don’t want to hear.”

Perry added: “I’m not Buddhist, I’m not Hindu, I’m not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God. I pray all the time – for self-control, for humility. There’s a lot of gratitude in it. Just saying ‘thank you’ sometimes is better than asking for things.”

TRAGEDY: Girl Drowns at Lagos Bar Beach on Christmas Day

A 17-year-old girl, simply identified as Agnes, who went to a beach in Lagos with her boyfriend on Christmas Day has drowned.

Agnes was said to have left her residence at Ajegunle, Kirikiri Road, to the Bar Beach in Victoria Island, with her lover, Emmanuel, but never returned home.

Emmanuel was reportedly called by his friend, Taiwo, around 4 pm to announce that the girl had drowned. Taiwo, however, said that they were still waiting to see if she could float, so that they would recover the body.

Accordig to reports,
Taiwo told this reporter at the beach that Emmanuel had earlier informed him that he was going to the Bar Beach with his girlfriend and promised to meet them there. When he arrived there with his girlfriend and later called his friend (Emmanuel), he shocked him with the sad news.
“I do not even know the beach where Emmanuel took Agnes to,” he said. Taiwo said that when he wanted to inquire about the beach, Emmanuel’s phone was switched off. “I wonder if he can face the girl’s parents. To tell them that their only daughter drowned,” he lamented.
In another development, a 12-year-old who accompanied his brother to the beach was declared missing.
The boy identified as Charles, was said to have left their residence in Mushin on Christmas Day, but was declared missing by his elder brother, Anthony.
Anthony told LEADERSHIP Friday that Charles was playing around the Lekki Beach, with some boys his age when he left them and decided to go for a walk with his girlfriend, Mercy. When he returned from the stroll, though, he could not find Charles again. “What will I tell my family?” Anthony cried out aloud, saying that the news would kill his mother. Meanwhile, his friends were still searching for the missing boy late into the evening, without success.

Deeper Life Church members disagree with Kumuyi over anti-Christmas statement

Certain members of the Deeper Life Bible Church, were seen attending other churches on Christmas day, to partake in the Christmas celebration with other Christians.

This may be as a result of the position taken by the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi, on the celebration of Christmas.

Kumuyi had caused a bit of a stir earlier this week when he reportedly condemned the celebration of Christmas, describing it as idolatry.

However, his opinion has generated a number of reactions across all spheres of the Christian fold.

I Prayed And Fasted For 10 Months To Become Governor - Rotimi Amaechi

Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Rotimi Amaechi has attributed the increasing level of insecurity in Nigeria to the Federal Government.

The Governor also said that God, not man, installed him as the state governor because he fasted and prayed for 10 months before he became the governor.

“As a government led by me, a government installed by Christ, if anybody tells you he installed me, tell him it is a lie. Tell him that I said I prayed for 10 months and I fasted from 6am to 6pm, calling on Christ to come down and Christ came down mightily and installed me as governor.
“That is why you can see that in the face of human effontery, I have been able to stand face to face with them and I say I have Christ in me."

Amaechi, who spoke at Saint Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Port Harcourt on Christmas Day, said the insecurity in the state is growing because the police had failed to do their job in an unbiased manner.

He urged Nigerians to disregard anyone who claimed to be responsible for his emergence as governor:
“You must rise in that same spirit of having Christ in you and confront those who are confronting you. You must stand up for Christ because the Bible says ‘faith without work is dead.’

“We must not die. We must live and the way to live is to celebrate Christ and the way to celebrate Christ is to confront Satan and Satan is in different forms and shapes. If the police shoot at you, they are satanic. If government denies you your right to live, that government is satanic.”

Amaechi called on the people to be steadfast.

MIRACLE: 16-Year-Old Girl Shot In The Head, Saved By Eyeglasses

By sheer chance, she had fallen asleep wearing her glasses. Slowed by the spectacles' frame, the slug lodged itself in the bridge of her nose, wounding Bryant but sparing her young life.

"I could have been dead. I'm glad that the glasses saved me," the teen told KOMO. "I fell asleep with my glasses on, and the glasses saved where the bullet was."

KIRO said shooting suspects drove by the house twice, spraying it with bullets each time. Police said Bryant was not the intended target.

Police believe the shooting was gang-related and allege that someone who resides in the home has a gang affiliation. Bryant and her mother, LaVette Bryant however denied that anyone in the family is involved with a gang, although her mother told KOMO that a recent visitor might be connected to one.

Although they are angered and outraged by the shooting, they are also thankful for what neighbors have called a "Christmas miracle."
"It's amazing. It's God sent. If it weren't for God she wouldn't be here," her mother told KOMO.
