Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua of the Synagogue Church of all Nations spoke with Punch's Bosede Olusola-Obasa on myriads of controversies surrounding his person and ministry. Read the chat below...

People say that you are very humble despite your popularity, how do you achieve this?

If you have passed through what I have passed through, you will even be more humble than I am.
Like what?

Things that can make people to be humble. You just think of it. I have good health and God shows me what I would have been in terms of sickness and death; it humbles me and I want to use my good health for him. At times, God shows me how people are suffering and the thought that it could have been me keeps me humble. For instance, if I did anything wrong during this interview, when you may have left, God will caution me. If I am not humble, I will be out of track. If I was not in the house of God, I would be one of the touts in the motor parks (the Agberos)

Why is it that your ministry seems to be more popular outside Nigeria than in Nigeria?

I want to offer the same prayer for you: that God should make you more popular outside your country than in your country. Let other countries introduce you to your country. I think that is better. As it is written in the Bible, a prophet has no honour in his country. I am not an evangelist or a pastor, I am a prophet. It is the word prophet that was used in that scriptural passage, not evangelist or so. If my people had understood the work from the beginning, it could have affected the glory of God in my life today. If people understand your vision from the beginning, you may not go far. It is better they don’t, they will understand later and by then, you would have been very strong and God would have strengthened your desire. Praises and adoration can make you a local champion.
Where are the people that Nigerians praised from the beginning? I can mention some – even men of God, who are no longer living today, so many founders – CAC, Cherubim and Seraphim, Church of the Lord and so on. We should get this understanding that those who were local champions in the past did not reach international recognition. Look beyond the ministry job to the secular world, was it Nigeria that introduced Prof. Wole Soyinka to the world? But when he became a Nobel Laureate, he became more powerful; when he talks, everyone wants to listen. Whereas there were some other local champions that even when they were dying, nobody took their news to CNN. They don’t know them. God has a way of raising people by throwing the image to the international community. Even the footballers that are notable became acceptable to Nigerians when they belong to international clubs. I may not be accepted by some people in Nigeria but my acceptance in the world has been announcing me to my world. When you look at the people working with me, you see that the ratio of Nigerians working with me are not more than 10 per cent.

Few years ago, Saheed Balogun reportedly said he would soon stop his ex-wife, actress Fathia Balogun, from using his name - Balogun, since they are no longer husband and wife.

Saheed was quoted to have said: “She is my ex. As for my name that she is still answering, the deed will be done soon. The Nigerian law says that after three or four years, you can do something about it. If somebody wants to keep my name, what of the new person coming in? This has nothing to do with grudges.”And now, it looks as if Saheed is set to do something about his threat. A reliable source informed Saturday Beats that the actor had taken his ex to court insisting that she drop his name.
But it won't be easy as Fathia had also reportedly boasted that nobody could stop her from using the name.
Fathia had said, “I laugh, my name is Fathia Balogun and it’s going to remain Balogun; nobody can ever change that and nobody can stop me from answering that name.”

How has fatherhood changed you?
It has taught me to save my money. It is a huge difference and a huge change in lifestyle. You become more matured.

You initially denied having a baby?
It was complicated back then, I didn’t really know what was happening and I wasn’t sure of certain things. So the best I had to do then was denying it and sort out things first. Now I know he is my child and I have done everything as a father ever since.

What is the relationship like with his mother?
I speak with her often and it is usually about the baby. That is all for now.

Have you started thinking about marriage?
No, I’m fully focused on my music.

28-Year-Old Nigerian Man Caught With Cocaine Worth Half Million Dollars at Kano Airport

Police say they have arrested a 28-year-old Nigerian carrying a half million dollars’ worth of cocaine stashed in speakers that he carried from Sao Paolo, in Brazil, to the northern Nigerian city of Kano.
Ambrose Umoru, NDLEA Commander in-charge of MAKIA said Maduagwu Nnaemeka was arrested at the airport on Wednesday with 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) of pure cocaine worth $500,000 (N81 million).
Nnaemeka told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that he was given the speakers at Sao Paolo airport by a Nigerian stranger who begged him to carry them to Kano.

He said he knew nothing about the cocaine they carried.
Umoru said it took his men about 14 hours to discover the cocaine neatly concealed inside two loud speakers.

London – A Nigerian entrepreneur has appeared on Dragon’s Den, a reality television programme in which budding entrepreneurs get three minutes to pitch their business ideas to five multi-millionaires willing to invest their own cash.

The eloquent young man who introduced himself as Pastor Jonah, wanted two hundred and fifty thousand pounds to start a new Pentecostal church, and promised returns of 500% within the first three years.
Producers of the series described the recently filmed episode as featuring the most incredible idea ever brought to the show.

They said of the Nigerian entrepreneur, “He was very confident and very smartly dressed in an Armani suit. He was charismatic and extremely knowledgeable of the Bible, and he appeared to have really done his research.”
His opening line was, “Brothers and sister, the Lord has brought me here today to tell you that there is no business like church business.”

In the episode which will air next season, the entrepreneur defends his business case by presenting data gathered from churches in Nigeria where he plans to setup his own church.

In a tense moment when he is being grilled by Theo Paphitis, he asks the Dragons a rhetorical question, “How many of you own private jets?”

“You don’t want to miss this one,” a member of the production crew told us. She however declined to comment on the outcome of the pitch, saying instead, “Let’s just say, the Dragons know a good investment when they see one.”

National Identity card to become ATM, travel card

The new national identity card can be used as Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card anywhere there is MasterCard logo in the world, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said.

NIMC’s Director of Technical Services, Mr Emmanuel Ogungbe, told Journalists on Thursday in Abuja that the commission had already signed an agreement with MasterCard.

“As opposed to just being an ID card, the card is also a cash card. What that means is you can also use it the way you currently use your ATM card.

“So if you put money on the card, you can withdraw this money anywhere in the world.

Police barricade on their way and the sun blazing above, All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders marched on the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja on Thursday.

Leading the way were former Head of State Muhammadu Buhari, APC Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) former chairman Chief Ogbonnaya Onu and many others.
But what exactly is their mission and their demands?

They demanded the cancellation of the November 16 Anambra State governorship election, resignation of Prof Attahiru Jega, INEC Chairman, and dissolution of the management of the electoral body. In a scene reminiscent of the pro-democracy struggle between 1993 and 1998 during the military era, the leaders trekked for about five kilometrer from the APC National Secretariat in Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja to Zambezi Crescent in Maitama District where INEC is located.

The Goodluck Jonathan administration has given the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, one week ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike or risk mass sack. The directive was given on Thursday on behalf of the government, in Abuja, by the acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike.
But in a swift reaction, ASUU rubbished the threat by the Jonathan Government to sack any lecturer who fails to report back to school on December 4, 2013. While condemning the threat, ASUU said:

“It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with union.This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000? We are not in Military era. The Military tried it and failed. This one will fail again.”

The union added that the threat latest will not only fail but worsen the situation and "make the strike linger more than necessary."
With this threat, ASUU said it is now very clear that the Federal government was not ready to implement any of the resolutions it reached with the union.

Terry G--‘I’m Not As Crazy As People Think I Am’

Gabriel Amanyi is very different from his alter ego Terry G or Gzus as he likes to be called these days. The popular musician and producer who recently released his fourth album ‘Book of Ginger’ is in all ramifications an energetic entertainer and at the same can be as calm as a toad in the sun. The Benue State-born performer talks to tweet9ja about the changes in his life.

You’ve been quiet for a while. Why’s that?
I decided to lay low for a while because I now have a kid. I’m also into a few businesses that at the time needed my attention. I opened a water company called REX Water. The truth is, I now have more responsibilities, which I need to concentrate on. It’s not like those days when I used to go for shows on a regular. I can’t depend on music money alone; so, other businesses and my son are other responsibilities that now have my attention.

You’ve also changed your looks and toned down on your stagecraft?

A Hollywood producer behind hit films such as Pretty Woman and Fight Club has said he spied for Israel in support of its nuclear programme.

Arnon Milchan, who was born in what is now Israel, gave an account to Israeli investigative programme Uvda.

Mr Milchan said he performed dozens of clandestine missions on behalf of Israel after he was recruited by Shimon Peres, now Israel's president.

"I did it for my country and I'm proud of it," he said.

'Risked my life'

In their latest move to put a stop to behaviour deemed 'immoral', the Police enforcing Islamic law in Kano state on Wednesday, destroyed 240,000 bottles of beer they had confiscated from trucks coming into the city.

According to AFP, the Sharia law enforcers called Hisbah, launched sweeping crackdowns in Kano since September, following a state government directive to cleanse the commercial state of “immoral” practices.

So, on Wednesday, a large bulldozer smashed the confiscated bottles to shouts of “Allahu Ahkbar” (God is great) from supporters outside the Hisbah headquarters in Kano.
Kegs containing more than 8,000 litres of a local alcoholic brew called burukutu and 320,000 cigarettes were also destroyed.

A 22-year-old man, Eji Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for the alleged murder of a 39-year-old trader, Sylvanus Okoye.

According to the police, the suspect stabbed the deceased to death at his home on Ezemegbu Drive, Okota in August.

The suspect, however, explained that he killed the deceased in self-defence.

He alleged that on the day of the incident, Okoye had attempted to rape him.

Explaining the events that culminated in Okoye’s death, the suspect said he was a dancer and was lured to Lagos by a friend, Chukwudi, under the guise of doing music business only for the friend to introduce him to homosexuality.

He said he had gone to report the matter to his friend’s boss but his friend’s boss raped him twice and he reported the matter at the FESTAC Police Division.

Jonathan's Strong Supporter Asari Dokubo Arrested In Cotonou

Is somebody trying to scare President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2015 election? Well, this is the insinuation in certain quarters following the arrest of his strongest supporter, Alhaji Asari Dokubo in the Benin Republic capital, Cotonou, on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources told tweet9ja that the ex-militant who has been talking tough in Nigeria was rounded up and whisked away to an undisclosed location as soon as he arrived the country. But what is his offence?
Here is what Asari Dokubo's lawyer, Barr. Festus Keyamo is saying:

First, Keyamo is claiming that Asari was not arrested for running any illegitimate business in the country. He noted that the ex-militant had been residing lawfully in Benin Republic for many years.

It was gathered that the ex-militant reportedly opened a private university; King Amachree African University, in Benin Republic. The university is preparing to start degree-awarding programmes in 2014.

Senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial Zone, Alhaji Ahmed Barata has placed a curse on gifts and donations disbursed to members of his constituency in a bid to ensure all beneficiaries of his empowerment programme vote for him at the upcoming elections.

While making his donations, the senator made the stunning utterance, informing anybody who was a beneficiary of his gifts and still refused to vote for him in the forthcoming 2015 general election would be punished by God.

Irked by the statement, some members of his constituency were said to have shunned the empowerment package and quietly left the scene, while some vowed they would collect his gift but they would still not vote for him because his constituency had benefited nothing from him.

Others who took his curse with a pinch of salt said if God were to punish anybody, the senator would be first on His list.

Despite criticisms from the public, the Central Bank of Nigeria has announced plans to produce and distribute the N5000 note in 2014. Deputy Governor of CBN, Tunde Lemo disclosed this while speaking to journalists at the NIBSS 20th anniversary conference held in Lagos, sayimg in one to two months from now, the N5000 notes would be in circulation.

According to him:” We only stopped the project due to the low level of understanding of its benefits among Nigerians, but we now plan to educate the people about the importance of the notes to our economy before we eventually launch it”. He added that Nigerians would soon see the notes in circulation and start to enjoy its benefits.

Speaking on the cashless initiative, Lemo noted that it has been a great success within the experimented states, stressing that the apex bank has deployed 120,000 Point of Sale (PoS) Machines across the states where cashless policy is being experimented in Nigeria.

There is a new angle to the actress, Uche Iwuji’s marriage breakup and it’s nauseating. A report has emerged stating that the FCMB MD, Ladi Balogun is responsible for the crisis in Uche Iwuji’s marriage.

According to the report, the actress’ husband, Juwon discovered that his wife was having an amorous affair with the banker and as well discovered some BBM/SMS messages exchanged between his Uche and Ladi. According to the report, some of the BBM chats include unclad pictures of the actress, which she allegedly sent to her lover boy banker.

It is alleged that Juwon Lawal has abandoned Uche and their new
born baby for the states with Uche finding solace in the hands of Ladi
Balogun who is said to have been spoiling her silly with cash among other things to ensure her compfort.

It would be recalled that Ladi Balogun on several occasions have been described as a very reckless individual with a penchant for sleeping with young pretty married ladies, among whom were, society big gal, Uju Murphy, whom he allegedly crashed her marriage in the end.

Kanye Bans Kim From Having Cosmetic Surgery

According to Heat Magazine, Kanye - whose mother Donda tragically died from surgery complications after a breast reduction and liposuction in 2007 - is having a clause written into their pre-nuptial agreement stating that Kim will have to pay a reported $500,000 if she has any work done.
He is said to have warned her their wedding is off if she goes under the knife before their big day after discovering an email from a surgeon about secret plans for surgery.

Another wonderful clause reportedly in their pre-nup limits the control Kanye's future mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, will have in Kim and Kanye's marriage.
The insider explained to heat magazine:

''Kanye's also inserted a mother-in-law clause which means Kris will have no say in decisions which affect them as a couple. Even work ones.

'The pair will also have to pay financial penalties if one of them cheats on the other, though insiders insist this is a ''standard'' clause.
The source added:

''There's also an infidelity clause like Khloe and Lamar had, which states they would receive $250,000 if the other person cheats, and a drug clause stating both would be subject to random drug testing at the other's wishes. It's standard - they're just planning for every eventuality.''

DR DOYIN ABIOLA ARRESTED ON ALLEGATION OF FRAUD

This is not the best of times for this very quiet and most humble wife of the late Aare Onakakanfo, Basorun MKO Abiola, in the person of Dr Doyin Abiola. The former MD of defunct Concord Newspapers, that used to be owned by her late husband has been arraigned in court on allegation of fraud.

She and about 3 other directors of Integrated Micro-finance Bank IMFB are alleged to have granted themselves unauthorized credit facilities to the tune of N327,566,000 Naira, without collateral and those loans granted are still outstanding as we speak.

The Game was just recently on Larry King Now, where he sat down to talk about his charity, album and more. His charity is called the ‘Robin Hood Project’, which he started after he was inspired by two Nigerian kids in Australia. He described how one day he was in a grocery store, and had only 100 Australian dollars, having already spent 75 out if it, he then came across the two Nigerian kids and began conversing with them. The game then decided he would give them 20 Australian dollars, and when he did they were smiling and telling him that they can’t wait to get home because the money would do a lot for them. This sparked a change in The Game’s views and he decided to start a charitable organization with 1 million dollars of his money.

D'Banj and Don Jazzy Back Together: Working On New Song

A source close to D'Banj and his former producer and partner, Don Jazzy, has told tweet9ja that times have changed and the two men are back together as good friends and have decided to work together.

Since separating from each other, D'banj has not released any song that is as strong and with National appeal as it used to be when Don Jazzy was his producer. Also, Don Jazzy on his part has not been able to produce any hit with his new crew like it used to be when D'Banj was around.

So, don't be surprised if you hear a new hit song from D'banj and Don Jazzy any time soon. The good days are back for lovers of good music in Naija and I hear the atmosphere is charged to deliver something that would be worth the long breaks.

FG Condemns ASUU’s New Conditions To Call Off Strike

University teachers are seeking audience with President Goodluck Jonathan.
They delivered yesterday a letter containing the request to the Supervising Minister for Education, Chief. Nyesom Wike.

Also, top leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), led by National President, Dr. Nasir Issa Fagge, converged yesterday on Abuja for the last stage of discussions with the Federal Government.

The leaders were awaiting the President’s invitation on the three conditions they tabled for the almost five -month strike to be called off.

The conditions are:

• commitment from the President that any review or reconsideration or renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement will not substantially affect the Agreement which is the cause of the ongoing strike;

• immediate payment of all outstanding salary arrears and allowances of varsity teachers without victimisation; and

•a written commitment from the President that the Federal Government will commit N225billion annually to the funding of universities for the next four years.
ASUU’s letter was delivered to the Minister through its Liaison Officer in Abuja.
But the minister has described the demand as outrageous.

Charles Enebeli, also known as D’Prince, who was recently signed on as MTN brand ambassador and whose track, Booty Bag, has been enjoying airplay on radio, speaks with Tribune, on Wande Coal and Don Jazzy’s break-up with Mavin Record and other issues.

You were in Ibadan recently for the MTN Loud Naija event, what was it like, seeing a lot of people turning out to watch you and other musicians’ perform?

Honestly, the feeling was great. I have been to Ibadan a couple of times, but this last show was something special. What thrilled me most that night was the fact that we had a lot of young and old people showing us love. The impression we had was that Ibadan people don’t go out at night, that they always retire to bed early. So, when I was about to perform and I saw the huge crowd, I said to myself that I better give these people the best of my performance. I am happy that they really had fun because I did too.

What memory of your experience in Ibadan did you take back to Lagos?

Ibadan is like our second home after Lagos. The fact is that you will always have something to say about anywhere you visit around the world. But as I said, I always love coming to Ibadan. The love you get from these wonderful people will always make you want to go back to that city. The after-party was another unforgettable night of fun. I really had fun. Ibadan is fast becoming another big place like Lagos. I am happy that after Lagos, there is another big place where people appreciate good music and will stop at nothing to make sure they have fun to the full.

How do you describe a situation that men of the Nigerian police saw a metal object where the Aviation Minister Stella Oduah claimed her car was shot at three times, but they don't think what they saw is a bullet?

That is the ridiculous state of the alleged attack on one of Stella Oduah's cars in Abuja last weekend. It's funny that Mr Joe Obi, the man who confirmed the purchase of N255m bullet proof cars for Stella, but was asked to keep quiet, is also the one saying the attack is true.

“You said you heard that the minister’s car was shot at, right? Of course that is true and it happened last Friday at about 10.30pm."
But the Police is not moved. The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Altienne Daniel, said...

“The incident was reported to us on Monday at exactly 5.45pm and we are subjecting the metallic object we recovered from the car to ballistic test.I can’t say whether the object is a bullet or not. So I can’t give you any information on it for now.”

British Woman Dupes Osaze Odemwingie of £70,000 (Equivalent to N18 Million Naira)

A British woman has appeared in court charged with conning thousands of pounds from Premiership footballers while working as their “lifestyle coach”.

Claire Duke, 38, is accused of defrauding high-profile clients – including Cardiff City FC striker Peter Odemwingie – out of more than £70,000 over a one year period.
It is alleged Duke received money for holidays and flights from clients but kept the money for herself.
She appeared at Cannock Magistrates’ Court in Staffordshire last Wednesday charged with five counts of fraud and one of theft.
Between September 1 last year and July 10 of this year she is accused of making a total of £71,106.83 fraudulently.

Included in the charges is that while Duke was the lifestyle consultant of 32-year-old Odemwingie, she allegedly stole £15,437.67 by using his debit card.

Dressed smartly in a grey dress and black blazer, Duke spoke only to confirm her name and age in court.

Ebonyi university reopens for lecture

The management of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, in eastern Nigeria on Monday ordered all the lecturers and students to return to classes immediately.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the Registrar, Mr Sam Egwu, said academic activities would resume on all the campuses of the university on Tuesday 26 November, saying the authorities have the support of 80 per cent of the academic staff.

The academic staff, in compliance with the directive of the national union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, went on strike from 1 July. ASUU is still seeking an audience with President Goodluck Jonathan to reach a decision on whether to call off the strike.

The ESU statement said: “we have waited patiently for the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve the impasse (strike) to no avail. The management of Ebonyi State University has, therefore, resolved to commence academic activities on Tuesday.

“We, therefore, use this medium to inform all concerned that teaching and learning will begin fully on Tuesday, to enable us to cover what we have lost to the strike” , the statement said.

The decision to reopen the school was reached at a management meeting held on 20 November.

It said “80 per cent of the lecturers in attendance agreed that they should ignore ASUU’s nationwide strike and return to class.
“The lecturers are not happy that the strike is lingering and therefore gave their full support for the resumption of school on Tuesday”, the source said.

The source, however, said that Chairman of ASUU in the university did not attend the meeting.

The chairman, Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, in an interview with NAN, dissociated the branch of ASUU from the decision to resume studies.
“The strike is still in progress until we get directives from our national leadership”, he told NAN.

Idenyi said the leadership of ASUU in the university was ready for a showdown with the school’s management if it decided to punish lecturers who defied the return-to-duty order.

A newborn baby boy wrapped in white clothing placed inside a polythene bag was dumped at the back-yard of a compound in Jemtok Street, along Ago-Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
The baby was believed to have been dumped by an unknown person, probably a mother. He was discovered at around 8p.m. on November 24, 2013, Sunday.
It was unfortunate that the baby was already dead before it was seen. The baby allegedly died of suffocation, while placed in the bag, due to lack of ventilation.
Whoever committed such crime, he/she must get the punishment according to law, and according to God's will as well.

Nigerian Teenager Arrested For Killing 60-Yr-Old Woman With Plastic Bag in Italy

The old woman was found semi-naked with a plastic bag over her head and her skull crushed in her apartment in Torre a Mare.
According to investigations, the death of Catherine Susca was caused by the beating she received in the course of the attack, suffocation with a plastic bag dropped on her head and strangulation with a scarf.
The Nigerian boy, Donald Nwajiobi, who lives in Bari but homeless, confessed he killed the woman in self-defense after she attacked him with a pair of scissors and he also claimed to have acted alone.
However, investigators will verify whether there were accomplices.
Donald said he had met the victim at Torre a Mare on the morning of the incident and asked her for food; the lady who was in the car asked him to follow her home with a promise to give him something to eat.
The police think once in the house, Donald tried to steal from the woman and was caught in the act, which would have led the 60 year old woman into trying to chase him out of her house with a pair of scissors.
Donald attacked and suffocated the woman with a plastic bag after beating her up.
Some money was stolen from the deceased plus a mobile phone with which he was tracked down by the police.
Donald was remanded in prison after the judge, Sergio Di Paola, ruled that he could be dangerous to free him on bail for he could kill again and probably flee.

ASUU Agrees to Call Off Strike, Gives conditions as they Meet with FG Today

VARSITY teachers have agreed to suspend their five months old strike, The Nation learnt yesterday.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given three conditions to be tabled before President Goodluck Jonathan today. If the terms are acceptable to the Federal Government, the union will call off the strike.
The ASUU leadership has banned its local chapters and zonal chairmen from talking to the media until after the session with the President.

ASUU President Dr. Nasir Issa Fagge and other leaders of the union were being expected in Abuja last night.

According to a source, who was part of the ASUU session at Mambayya House in Kano, the conditions are: •commitment from the President that any review or reconsideration or renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement will not substantially affect the pact which is the cause of the ongoing strike;

•immediate payment of all outstanding salary arrears and allowances of varsity teachers without victimization; and
