10 Steps to Rocking Your Dream Job Interview

Interview-handshake-620x480

Prepare, prepare, prepare!

Preparation is the only thing you have total, 100% control over, says HR expert and consultant Lucy Cherkasets of Clarity Media Group (she’s interviewed more than a thousand people, so she would know!) Don’t just assume you can wing it. Research the company and the person interviewing you and practice your answers.

“Tell me about yourself.” Don’t answer this by trying to cram your entire life story into a two-minute spiel. “This should be your cue to tell me why you’re at this table,” Cherkasets says. Be friendly but focused, narrowing in on the aspects of your personality that make you perfect for this job.

Forbes said of the billionaire tagged the ‘Slick Oil Baroness‘:

And so it came to pass recently that 62-year-old Folorunsho Alakija, the oil baroness from Nigeria, became known as the richest black woman in the world. Alakija, however, is profoundly uncomfortable with the ‘super-rich’ tag. She believes that she is far more than just her fabulous wealth.

How To Avoid Career Blunders

By Eno Jerry

Eno Jerry is a Human Resource Manager, God fearing and happily married. I read this article and I can assure you would benefit from this cause I just did.

How To Avoid Career Blunders

  1. Understand You: What are you good at doing or what do you enjoy doing? That should form your career choice or guide you in choosing a career path. Don't be too quick to pursue a career not meant for you, especially while unemployed.
  2. Job Hopping: Switching jobs too frequently makes a bad impression to your employer. You come off to an employer as someone who lacks commitment, reliability, perseverance and a bit self-centered.
  3. Look Beyond Money: Don't choose a career because it pays more with no growth opportunities. The charm of money fades away over a period of time, while career growth and skill enhancement takes you high.

An Exclusive Interview With Tariye Isoun Gbadegesin, Vice President (Investments Group), Africa Finance Corporation

_XVA9502
What is your educational background?

I attended Federal Government Girls’ College, Abuloma in Rivers State. I have a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Amherst College in Massachusetts and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

What influenced your career choices?

My career decisions are motivated primarily by my desire to solve the problems of poverty and economic underdevelopment. Over the years, I have tried to figure out where I can add the most value based on my natural strengths and work approach.

After I graduated from university, I spent a year working for a non-profit organization in Costa Rica. My objective was to gain economic development experience and become fluent in another language. With my degree in economics and fluency in Spanish, upon my return to the US, I got an offer from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). I went on to get an MBA from Harvard then I decided it was time to return to Nigeria. I joined the Silverbird Group where I headed strategy and corporate development. Thereafter, I got a unique opportunity to join the start-up team to create the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC). I was the second employee.  I have been at AFC for five years now and have seen the corporation grow to the foremost infrastructure bank for Africa.
